It was not today that young "Prince", Sönke Rothenberger and his Cosmo were able to beat "the Queen" Isabell Werth with Weihegold. For sure they were showing themselves in a way, that some of us (or at least H2R) got the feeling of a close victory, but a victory worth, in front of the home crowed at Deutsche Bank stadion in Aachen. Not seen from the same "angle" for the judges ;-).
Said that, Isabell Werth was as sharp as possible with Weihegold, and this is still enough for the top of the podium.
It was really Sönke and Cosmo´s Aachen this year, and they were shining all the way. As a spectator, journalist, trainer, groom, horse owner, dressage neard, judge or whoever you are around this fabulous sport, you just love the "wooows" and surprices when it comes to watching the absolut top of the sport, like this weekend from Aachen. And from H2R point of view Sönke just gave this extra together with Cosmo.
From Aachen 2017 the headline must be: Effortless easy power riding
Which moments were the best?
- Cosmo: Trot extensions and series.
- Weihegold: Transitions, piaffe and passage.
- Verdades: Halt and half passes.
- Cassidy: Walk tour, lightness in the hand and easy aides.
- Dante Weltino: Light contact and lots of power (still a lot hidden for the future)
All Star Team
Many teams has already been selected for the European Championships, but more to come tomorrow.
From H2R, a bit ahead of time, there must also be an "All Star Team" even before it starts. These young riders mentioned here below has an average age of just 26 years! - this fact and their top performances from Aachen 2017 makes them to "All Stars".
- Cosmo / Sönke Rothenberger (GER)
- Atterupgaards Cassidy / Cathrine Dufour (DEN)
- Dante Weltino / Therese Nilshagen (SWE)
- Arlando / Anna Zibrandtsen (DEN)
